BCCI announced the squads for the much-awaited Duleep Trophy
It is set to start on September 5 in Bengaluru.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the board expected a few senior players namely Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and R Ashwin to be exempted.
He said that it was not necessary to include them. He further said that after deep thought, the selectors wanted to create a ‘balance’ of ‘experience’ with ‘emerging players’. This will pay the way for the young talent to show their skills, indirectly forcing the selectors to include them for the big events, based on their ‘exceptional’ performance.
The Indian team of late is oozing with confidence, thanks to the recent performances and the selectors know the importance of giving a chance to younger players so that they can play for the country for several years. This is strategically a far-sighted approach that has been helping the team to bring out the best.
This will give the chance to the shining players to further consolidate their positions in the team. The players namely Mohammed Siraj, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Suryakumar Yadav will be part of the squad.
Rishabh Pant who was a member of the T20 World Cup winning squad will be returning to red-ball cricket after the scary car accident in 2022
Ishan Kishan, a left-handed wicketkeeper, will also play. His news of inclusion in the Duleep Trophy gained prominence since he was earlier removed by the BCCI from the contract list due to skipping the Ranji Trophy.
The duo of Dhruv Jurel and Sarfraz Khan have played a pivotal role in the success against England and will be participating as well. Abhishek Porel as well as Aryan Juyal are also picked for the squad.
Fast bowler Mayank Yadav can’t make it to the squad due to health issues as he is suffering from a lower abdominal injury.
