The ICC has announced the match officials’ panel for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to occur from October 3 to 20 in the United Arab Emirates. This ninth edition of the tournament will be overseen by ten female umpires and three female match referees, highlighting the ICC’s dedication to enhancing female representation in cricket officiating.
The panel comprises highly experienced officials, with Claire Polosak poised to take on her fifth Women’s T20 World Cup. Kim Cotton and Jacqueline Williams, both of whom officiated the final in Cape Town earlier this year, will also be making their fourth World Cup appearances.
Sue Redfern, the TV umpire from the 2023 final, is set to return for her fourth World Cup. Joining the lineup for the first time is Zimbabwe’s Sarah Dambanevana, who will be debuting at this prestigious event.
The team of match referees includes GS Lakshmi, who began her refereeing career in 2012 and officiated the 2023 final. She will be accompanied by Shandre Fritz and Michell Pereira, both taking part in their second Women’s T20 World Cup.
An all-female lineup of match officials
Sean Easey, ICC Senior Manager for Umpires and Referees, voiced the organization’s pride in appointing an all-female lineup. He emphasized that these officials were chosen based on their outstanding recent performances in bilateral and other international contests.
“The ICC is proud to be contributing to the advancement of women in our sport. To be announcing this all-female lineup of match officials for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is wonderful,” Sean said.
“This group, selected as the most deserving umpires for this event following their recent form in bilateral and other cricket, are some of the very best from around the world.”
