The Indian spin bowler Asha Sobhana missed the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 match against Australia on Sunday after hurting her knee during warm-ups before the game.
The BCCI announced on social media that Asha wouldn’t be able to play in this important match against the Australians.
“Asha Sobhana is unable to participate in today’s game against Australia after she suffered a knee injury during the warm-up on the sidelines of toss,” the BCCI shared in a post on social media.
Radha Yadav replaced Asha in the team after the match referee informed Australian captain Tahlia McGrath about the situation, and she agreed to the change.
“Radha Yadav will replace Asha in the Playing XI,” the governing body for cricket in India added. The board also stated that the medical team was checking how serious Asha’s injury was right before the match started.
Australia won the toss and chose to bat first against India in this Group A matchup. In the game, Indian bowler Renuka Thakur struck early taking two quick wickets. She dismissed Aussie opener Beth Mooney for just 2 runs, with Radha Yadav catching it.
Renuka then took another wicket on the next ball, getting Georgia Wareham out for a golden duck. It will be interesting to see if Radha could fill the void made by Asha’s absence.
