The Indian team has made a big addition to their squad for the final match of the Test series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The BCCI has included fast bowler Harshit Rana for the last game and he is likely to make his Test debut.
Harshit Rana’s inclusion comes after his outstanding performances in the Ranji Trophy. Playing for Delhi the fast bowler shone with both bat and ball helping his team win with some heroic efforts.
Rana took a five-wicket haul and scored a fifty while batting at number 8. Initially he was part of the Indian team setup as a traveling reserve for the current series but was released to play in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, where he made a strong statement with his performance.
Harshit Rana Selected for the BGT 2024-25
Harshit Rana has also been named in the Indian squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The fast bowler has been frequently traveling with the team, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he debuts in the upcoming third Test against New Zealand.
Reports suggest Rana is set to make his debut in the last Test against New Zealand. Recently, Washington Sundar joined the squad and was immediately included in the playing eleven. If this trend continues Rana might also get his first opportunity in whites.
Harshit gained attention with his standout performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Playing for Kolkata Knight Riders he took 19 wickets in 13 matches—the highest among uncapped bowlers and fifth overall.
Harshit has a strong First-Class record with 36 wickets at an average of 24.75 across nine matches. If given a chance he would likely aim to make an impact especially after his recent heroics in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25.
The final Test of the series against New Zealand will be crucial for India, as they’ve already lost the series and will want to make an impact in the last game. The Wankhede Test holds additional importance for India in the context of the World Test Championship points table.
