Team India’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025. BCCI confirmed on Tuesday that Bumrah has started having back pain again, due to which he will not be able to play in this big tournament.

What happened to Bumrah?
Actually, Bumrah complained of back pain in the last Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played in Sydney last month. After bowling only 10 overs in the first innings, he walked out of the field and could not return. Doctors examined him and found that he was suffering from back spasm.
After this, questions were being raised about Bumrah’s fitness. He could not play even in the ODI and T20 series against England, and now it has come as a big shock that he has been out of the Champions Trophy as well.
What will be the impact of Bumrah’s departure on Team India?
Bumrah’s exclusion is a big loss for Team India. This 31 year old fast bowler has taken 149 wickets in 89 ODI matches so far. His average is 23.55 and economy rate is 4.59, which shows how great a bowler he is.
This is not the first time that Bumrah has been out of a major tournament due to injury. He was also ruled out of the T20 World Cup in 2022 due to a back injury. Now once again his back has not cooperated.
Due to which the challenge of Team India has increased without Bumrah. His yorkers and slower balls were very useful in the death overs. Now captain Rohit Sharma will have to make a new strategy. More responsibility has fallen on Shami and Arshdeep Singh.
However, the good thing is that Harshit Rana has performed well in his initial matches. The spin department has also been strengthened with the arrival of Varun Chakraborty. Team India still has good options.
The team management is hopeful that Bumrah will recover soon. Currently, he is undergoing treatment at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru.
Who will replace Bumrah?
BCCI has included young fast bowler Harshit Rana in the team in place of Bumrah. 23-year-old Harshit has played only two ODI matches so far, but impressed everyone by taking three wickets in his very first match against England in Nagpur.
Apart from this, another major change has been made. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been dropped from the team and spinner Varun Chakraborty has been given a chance in his place. 33-year-old Chakraborty has performed well in T20 cricket and also made his ODI debut against England in Cuttack on Sunday.

India will play its first match against Bangladesh on 20 February. After this, there will be a great match with Pakistan on 23rd February, for which everyone is eagerly waiting. The last group match will be played against New Zealand on March 2.
