The mega auction for the Indian Premier League is just around the corner and it’s fair to say that some massive moves are likely to unfold. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra made a bold prediction ahead of the auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He believes that Rohit Sharma might not play for the Mumbai Indians in 2025.
There have been reports that Rohit Sharma has already been approached by certain franchises and that he might be heading to auction. So far, clarity remains elusive, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he makes an appearance at the auction table.
Aakash Chopra discussed the possibility of Rohit Sharma transitioning to another team, stating that he might not be with the Mumbai Indians.
While explaining this, he noted that the franchise’s decision to appoint Hardik Pandya as captain was made with an eye toward the future, which they might consider in this auction. While speaking on the 2 Sloggers YouTube channel, he explained:
“I don’t have any personal information. I’m not privy to what’s going to happen. Rohit is no longer the captain of Mumbai Indians. He might not be at Mumbai Indians is what I feel. I mean, he may choose to be there. He’s not the captain. I mean, indeed, he’s not the captain. And if Hardik was made the captain, they did it with a lot of thought. And for that, you might get trolled or criticized,” said Aakash Chopra.
“It’s not like if Rohit was the captain, the season would have always been good. It’s not like that either. They finished number 8 as well. So, I feel that Rohit might not be at Mumbai Indians this year. It’s just my understanding. Otherwise, if he plays I don’t mind” he added.
Aakash Chopra also addressed the speculation concerning Rishabh Pant moving to Chennai Super Kings. He asserted that logic doesn’t indicate he should leave and emphasized that the ‘yellow army’ is known for backing their players highlighting that they will support Ruturaj Gaikwad.
