The four-day Test match starting on 22 May 2025 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham will mark the start of a blazing cricket season for England.
After almost two decades, the Zimbabwe cricket team is back to rock Test cricket on English soil, after which this match is not just a Test for Zimbabwe, but an opportunity to show the world how strong they still are in Test cricket.

Zimbabwe’s Test comeback
The Zimbabwe team has already played Tests against Afghanistan, Ireland and Bangladesh this year. Their spectacular victory in Sylhet surprised everyone.
Now they are ready to test their strength against a legendary team like England. But the road is not easy. The recent 138-run defeat against County Select XI showed that it is a big challenge for them to survive on England’s pitches.
England’s new color, new enthusiasm
England’s team is a little different this time. Veteran bowlers like James Anderson and Stuart Broad have now retired. Captain Ben Stokes is making a comeback after hamstring surgery, but he may not be able to play the role of an all-rounder completely.
England’s batting has seen ups and downs, and coach Brendon McCullum has asked his team to show “a little humility” so that the hearts of the fans can be won again.
For Zimbabwe, this Test is a celebration of their return to Test cricket. Under the captaincy of Craig Ervine, the team has star bowlers like Blessing Mujrabani, who did wonders in the Sylhet Test.
On the other hand, England has given a chance to young fast bowler Sam Cook to make his Test debut.
Expressing excitement on his debut, Sam Cook said,
“I am definitely very excited to get the nod and go there. Wearing a Test shirt for England is the dream of any young cricketer. So hopefully this is something that comes true and I am really looking forward to it.”
Along with him, off-spinner Shoaib Bashir is also ready to show his strength in bowling.
The pitch of Trent Bridge has always been helpful for fast bowlers. Bowlers like Josh Tongue have made a splash there this season, but there is also a chance for batsmen to score runs. There is a possibility of light rain on Saturday, which can bring a twist to the game.
