India and Sri Lanka are competing in the Super Fours of the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai. India have reached the final, while Sri Lanka are out of the tournament.
Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and put India in to bat first. India rested Jasprit Bumrah and Shivam Dubey, giving Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana a chance.

Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma opened the innings. But in the second over, Sri Lankan spinner Mahesh Theekshna made a breakthrough. Gill hit a four off his delivery, but mistimed the next delivery.
The ball bounced back to the bowler, and Theekshna took a brilliant catch by diving to his left. Gill returned to the pavilion, bewildered and distraught, after scoring just 4 runs.
Turning point of the match: A look at India’s batting
This catch went viral on social media, with fans calling it a “blinder.” Commentators called it a “sensational effort.” It was Gill’s second early dismissal of the tournament.
He scored 47 runs against Pakistan, but his form didn’t show in the remaining matches. Abhishek responded by hitting a six off Teekshna, but the fall of wickets increased the pressure on India.
Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma are now at the crease. This wicket was a big one for Sri Lanka, as Gill’s opening pair was making waves.
Teekshna and Hasaranga are troubling India with their spin. The Dubai pitch is favoring spinners.
