Cricket fans got to see a spectacle that was heart-stopping on Saturday night in Cairns.
Glenn Maxwell’s explosive batting led Australia to a thrilling last-over win in the third T20 against South Africa and won the series 2-1.

Glenn Maxwell’s brilliant innings
By scoring an unbeaten 62 off 36 balls, Maxwell showed why he is called the “Big Show”!
In the match, Australia got a target of 173 runs, which was not easy on a difficult pitch. The balls were coming intermittently, and South African bowlers put Australia in trouble by reducing them to 122/6.
But then Maxwell took charge. 10 runs were needed in the last over, and Maxwell hit a brilliant reverse scoop off Lungi Ngidi’s full toss ball, which went straight across the boundary.
The spectators in the stadium were overjoyed, and Maxwell’s roar made everyone crazy.
After receiving the Player of the Match award, Maxwell said,
“Corbin bowled a great over. Good to get across the line. I just stayed calm, watched the ball and understood where to find the boundaries.”
His calm and precise thinking helped Australia cross the line of victory.
Earlier, captain Mitchell Marsh (54 runs, 37 balls) and Travis Head gave Australia a strong start by sharing 66 runs.
But South Africa tried to make a comeback with the brilliant bowling of Corbin Bosch (3/26). Still, Maxwell did not give any chance and turned the game around in the last moments.
Player of the Series Tim David praised Maxwell and said,
“I wouldn’t be standing here without Maxi. I’m just enjoying going out there and competing. Keeping it simple, not trying too hard. Form comes and goes.”
Dewald Brevis hit a brilliant half-century for South Africa and scored 172/7, but it was not enough against Maxwell.
Australia’s recent record in T20 is now excellent, with series wins against Scotland, Pakistan, West Indies and now South Africa, and a draw against England.
With Maxwell’s return to form, Australia now looks even more dangerous in white-ball cricket.
