Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devjit Saikia recently dismissed reports that Team India was going to withdraw from the 2025 Asia Cup and Women’s Emerging Asia Cup.

There were rumours on social media and some news channels that India would not participate in these ACC tournaments. But Saikia made it clear that all these are just rumours and have nothing to do with reality.
What is the whole matter?
For the past few days, there were reports that due to the increasing tension between India and Pakistan, the BCCI has decided to withdraw from the Asia Cup 2025. Some reports claimed that the BCCI has told the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that it will not participate in the men’s Asia Cup to be held in India in September and the women’s Emerging Asia Cup to be held in Sri Lanka in June.
These reports created a stir among cricket fans, as the India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup always remains in the headlines.
But Sakia put a break on all these speculations.
He said, “Since morning, there are reports on some news channels and websites that the BCCI has decided to withdraw from ACC tournaments. I want to make it clear that these reports are completely rubbish. The BCCI has neither discussed anything about the Asia Cup nor has written any letter to the ACC.”
The excitement of the Asia Cup continues!
Sakia also told that right now the entire focus of the BCCI is on the ongoing IPL 2025 and the series of men’s and women’s teams against England.
He said, “Our mind is currently on the IPL and England series. There has been no discussion about the Asia Cup or any other ACC event. If there is any decision, we will tell everyone at the right time.”
The Asia Cup 2025 is to be played in T20 format, which is very important for the preparations of the 2026 T20 World Cup. Teams from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will participate in this tournament. India is the defending champion and fans hope that the team under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma will win the title this time too.
Why did these rumors fly?
According to reports, some people linked the speculation of India’s withdrawal to ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Apart from this, the recent tension between India and Pakistan and the Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor also fueled these rumors. But Sakia clarified that all this is “imaginary and baseless”.
Hosting will be done through hybrid model
The BCCI had already made it clear that it would not send its team to Pakistan due to security and political reasons.
Therefore, all of India’s matches in the Asia Cup will be played in Sri Lanka, which will be the co-host of the tournament. The same model was also adopted in the Champions Trophy 2025, where India’s matches were held in Dubai.
