There is a stir in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it is reported that BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla’s dream of becoming the President has been shattered.
With this, the Government of India has taken control of BCCI before Asia Cup 2025.

What is the whole matter?
According to sources, the government has introduced a new National Sports Governance Bill, under which BCCI will be given the status of National Sports Federation (NSF).
This means that now BCCI will have to follow the rules and regulations of the Sports Ministry. Earlier BCCI was completely independent and did not take any funding from the government, but now the situation is going to change.
This bill will be introduced in Parliament on Wednesday. The special thing is that all this happened when BCCI’s current President Roger Binny turned 70 on July 19.
According to BCCI rules, no one can hold the post after the age of 70. But the new bill talks about increasing the age limit from 70 to 75 years, which may give some relief to Binny.
“Transparency in Sports”
The aim of the new bill is to bring transparency in sports, protect the interests of players and follow international standards. The government says that this step is also necessary for preparing to host the 2036 Olympics.
Also, now athletes will also get an important role in sports policies. Every sports federation will have to form an athlete committee, which will raise the voice of the players.
What will happen to Roger Binny?
Roger Binny, who was a part of the 1983 World Cup winning team, is currently on a family vacation in Thailand.
It is reported that he is consulting BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia and the legal team. But no official statement has come from BCCI yet.
If the bill is passed, Binny can complete his term without any legal hurdles.
Impact on Asia Cup 2025?
Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka, but due to India-Pakistan tension, it can be shifted to a neutral venue.
With this big change of BCCI, the preparations for the tournament will also be monitored.
