India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar slams Karun Nair for his poor Test performances. The BCCI official dropped Nair from the West Indies Test squad. Agarkar chose Devdutt Padikkal instead because of his better recent form.

Karun Nair’s Disappointing England Tour
Karun Nair returned to the Indian Test team after 3000 days away. Cricket fans hoped he would grab this golden opportunity with both hands. But Nair disappointed everyone with his weak batting throughout the England series.
Nair managed only 131 runs from six innings during the England tour. He averaged a poor 21.83 runs per innings across all matches. The selectors expected much better numbers from such an experienced domestic player.
“Frankly, we expected a little bit more. I mean, he’s played four Tests. That’s the way it is, I mean, we feel Padikkal offers a little bit more at this point. And I wish we could give everyone 15 or 20 Tests. Frankly, we expected a bit more from Karun on the England trip there,” Agarkar stated.
Ajit Agarkar slams Karun Nair because he wasted his comeback chance badly. Nair batted at different positions but failed to score consistently anywhere. His technique looked shaky against England’s fast bowlers and spinners alike.
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy showed Nair’s struggles even more clearly to the selectors. He scored 205 runs in four Tests with an average of 25.62. These numbers prove Nair could not handle international bowling pressure properly.
Devdutt Padikkal Gets His Reward
Devdutt Padikkal replaces Karun Nair in India’s Test squad for good reasons. The young left-hander has shown much better form in recent matches. Padikkal scored a brilliant half-century against England in Dharamshala last year.
His domestic record impressed Agarkar and other selectors throughout this season. Padikkal smashed 150 runs against Australia A in a practice match. This big score proved he can handle quality international bowling attacks.
“Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. Padikkal’s been in the Test squad. I mean, he was in the Test squad in Australia, played in Dharamshala against England, got a 50 there. So he’s shown some decent form with India,” Agarkar added.
Padikkal brings fresh energy and a positive attitude to the Indian dressing room. The Karnataka batsman works harder in training sessions than many others. His hunger for success shows in every innings he plays currently.
Selectors Focus on Current Form
Ajit Agarkar slams Karun Nair but admits past achievements mean nothing now. The chief selector wants players who perform well in recent matches. Domestic cricket success does not guarantee international selection these days automatically.
Nair scored heavily in Ranji Trophy matches but could not repeat domestically. International cricket demands different skills and mental strength from batsmen always. The selectors believe Padikkal handles pressure situations much better than Nair.
