Australian women cricketers face molestation in Indore during the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. Two players were walking to a cafe when a man followed them on a motorcycle. The accused molested them before the police arrested him the very next day.
What Happened With the Australian Players?
The incident happened on October 23, 2025 when two cricketers left their hotel alone. They were heading to The Neighbourhood Café for food when trouble started on the road. A 30-year-old man named Aqeel Khan followed them on his motorcycle creating fear.
Australian women cricketers face molestation as Khan touched them inappropriately while riding past. The players immediately sent an SOS message to their security manager Danny Simmons. They felt scared and unsafe walking on Indore streets during broad daylight hours.
“Our players were walking a short distance to a nearby café. Around 11 a.m., they sent me an SOS alert that a man was following them and trying to grab them. Both the players were escorted back to their hotel and did not sustain any physical injuries,” Simmons said.
Simmons rushed to help them and filed an FIR. A viewer also helped by noting down the motorcycle’s registration number plate. CCTV footage recorded from nearby shops caught the entire incident on camera.

Police Action and Arrest Details
Indore police immediately registered an FIR under Sections 74 and 78 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These sections deal with outraging the modesty of women which carries serious punishment legally. Police arrested Aqeel Khan within 24 hours using CCTV evidence and eyewitness statements.
Khan has a previous criminal record which raised serious safety concerns during the ongoing tournament. Security Measures After the Incident
ICC and BCCI reviewed all security protocols for teams staying in Indore immediately after. Additional security personnel were deployed around team hotels and practice venues across the city. Players can’t walk alone anymore and must have security escorts everywhere they go.
“CA can confirm two members of the Australian Women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a cafe in Indore. The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter,” Cricket Australia’s statement.
Australia prepares for their semifinal match against South Africa despite this disturbing incident happening. The team wants to focus on cricket but safety worries linger in everyone’s minds. Authorities promised better protection, making sure such incidents never happen again during the World Cup tournament.
