The Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan was a thrilling one, but now a new controversy has erupted regarding the trophy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has leveled serious allegations against Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi.
The BCCI says that Naqvi took the trophy with him after the final, which is untrue. The BCCI is now going to lodge a strong protest regarding this matter.
Trophy Controversy: What is the whole matter?
India defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in the Asia Cup final played in Dubai to win the title for a record 9th time.
However, after the victory, the trophy ceremony was delayed by 90 minutes, and then Naqvi took the trophy away instead of handing it over to India.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia angrily said,
“We had decided not to take the trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister. However, that does not mean that gentleman will snatch the trophy.”
The BCCI says this is completely unfair.
Saikia also stated that two senior BCCI officials, Vice President Rajiv Shukla and Ashish Shelar, will strongly raise the issue at the ACC meeting in Dubai on Tuesday.
He stated that Naqvi has no right to keep the trophy. If the ACC ignores this, the BCCI will take the matter to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
BCCI’s Warning and Team India’s Celebration
Saikia strongly criticized Naqvi’s attitude, saying, “He has no right to keep it.”
He expressed hope that Naqvi would return the trophy and medals soon. Saikia also stated that if this does not happen, the BCCI will raise the issue more strongly at the ICC meeting in November.
He also condemned the delay in the ceremony, saying, “We brought the medals, so it’s very unfortunate, very unfair, and we hope the trophy and medals are returned to India soon.”
Meanwhile, following India’s victory, the BCCI announced a reward of ₹21 crore for Team India and its support staff.
Saikia linked the victory to the Indian Army’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ following the Pahalgam terror attack in May.
He said, “We are very proud of our team. They have delivered brilliantly on the cricket pitch, just like our armed forces delivered and protected our country at the border in May.”
Despite the controversy, India’s victory won the hearts of fans, but the drama surrounding the trophy is far from over.
