Chennai Super Kings (CSK) superstar Ravichandran Ashwin is once again in the headlines, but this time for the wrong reasons.

Darasal, Ashwin spoke openly on the IPL 2025 contract of young South African batsman Dewald Brevis, which created a ruckus in the CSK camp.
His comment not only angered the franchise, but his old teammate Anirudh Srikkanth also slammed him.
Ashwin praised Brevis on his YouTube channel, but used the word “extra” regarding his contract.
That’s where the ruckus started! People started speculating that Brevis got more money than his base price. CSK immediately clarified that Brevis was signed for Rs 2.2 crore, and there was no “extra” payment in it.
Anirudh Srikkanth did not like this statement of Ashwin at all.
He said on his YouTube channel Cheeki Cheeka, as quoted by Times Now,
“This is Ashwin talking about his contract on his YouTube channel. I think it’s, first of all, very wrong. As an existing player, being in the same team, and talking about another player’s contract, even if it’s in a different context, that’s the kind of issue that it can create.”
Srikkant believes that it is not right to talk about a player’s contract in public, as it can create tension and misunderstandings in the team.
Srikkant further said, “First of all, you don’t talk about someone else’s contract. And that’s why CSK has come out with a strong statement. All the fans have been given relief, saying, ‘Absolutely don’t worry; this player is with us for the next two years.’”
Ashwin also hit back and clarified. On his YouTube channel, he said,
“In the previous video, my intention was to talk about Brevis’ batting, not his IPL signing amount. We need to understand that every player who plays in the IPL has a contract with the franchise and the tournament.”
He added, “If anything is wrong, it won’t be ratified. My point was about his batting, not the money.”
Talking about Dewald Brevis, he is making a splash in IPL 2025. 225 runs in just 6 innings at an average of 37.50 and a strike rate of 180, including two half-centuries.
In the recent T20 series against Australia, he also scored 180 runs at a strike rate of 204.55, which also included an unbeaten innings of 125 runs. Now he is set to make his ODI debut on August 19.
