The T20 World Cup 2026 ended on Sunday but some teams still can’t leave India! West Indies and South Africa are stuck while England has already flown home. People are calling this totally unfair treatment.

The Middle East war closed several airspace routes completely. Some flight paths work fine while others remain blocked. England got lucky with their departure timing basically.
The Controversy Over Unequal Treatment
West Indies last played on March 1 – over a week ago! They’re still waiting in India for flight clearance. South Africa lost their semifinal on March 4 to New Zealand.
England lost to India on March 5 in the other semifinal. Yet they managed to fly home from Mumbai almost immediately! That timing difference made everyone suspicious about favoritism.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan blasted the ICC publicly. “All teams in this situation should be treated the same, just because you’re more powerful at ICC shouldn’t count.”
Daren Sammy, West Indies head coach, posted frustration on X repeatedly. “I just wanna go home,” he wrote desperately. His additional posts showed increasing impatience about the delays.
ICC’s Official Explanation Released
ICC responded to biased accusations through BBC Sport officially. Their spokesperson explained the situation clearly to everyone.
“Decisions on departure sequencing are being driven solely by airspace availability, aircraft routing permissions, visa requirements and operational safety considerations. Any suggestion that teams have been prioritised based on anything other than these constraints is incorrect,” an ICC spokesperson said.
Aircraft routing permissions and visa requirements played major roles. Operational safety considerations always came first, according to ICC. No prioritization happened based on team power or influence.
England’s Mumbai departure route faced zero airspace restrictions fortunately. Their flights operated normally without any Middle East complications. The route simply avoided conflict zones completely successfully.
ICC refuted all bias claims strongly and definitively. They accommodated every team’s departure demands as much as possible. Airspace geography determined everything – not ICC politics apparently.
When Teams Finally Leave India
Reports confirm chartered planes arranged for the West Indies tomorrow morning. South Africans expect to depart today if airspace permits finally. The delays frustrated players and staff enormously obviously.
India won their third T20 World Cup title Sunday night! They defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in Ahmedabad. India also became the first team to defend this title successfully.
Sanju Samson earned Player of the Tournament honors deservedly! Sachin Tendulkar praised his smart batting in the final. Virat Kohli called the award “most well-deserved” for Samson.
The departure drama overshadowed India’s celebration somewhat unfortunately. But airspace restrictions created genuine logistical nightmares for everyone involved!
