Good news coming from Shreyas Iyer’s camp finally after weeks of worry. India’s vice-captain has started his rehabilitation process following a scary spleen injury. He picked up this nasty injury during the final ODI against Australia. But Iyer won’t play in the upcoming South Africa series unfortunately.

How the Injury Happened in Australia
Shreyas Iyer was fielding when Alex Carey hit a tough chance his way. He attempted a really difficult catch trying to help his team desperately. He took the catch but landed awkwardly after diving for the ball.
The impact resulted in a spleen laceration that caused internal bleeding. Doctors immediately rushed him to the hospital for urgent treatment. This type of injury is super serious and requires careful management always.
Iyer returned home to India on November 16 after getting cleared medically. Since then, he’s begun light training sessions to regain fitness gradually.
Missing South Africa ODIs, But Recovering Well
The three-match ODI series against South Africa starts on November 30. Matches will happen in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam across different venues. Sadly, Shreyas Iyer won’t feature in any of these games.
Captain Shubman Gill is also sitting out due to his neck injury. KL Rahul will lead the team in both their absences instead. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to strengthen India’s batting lineup though.
The series then moves to five T20 matches starting December 9. Whether Iyer recovers in time for those games remains uncertain currently.
Iyer’s Form Before the Injury
Shreyas Iyer had mixed results during the Australia ODI series before this. He scored 61 runs in one match showing glimpses of form. But India lost that series 1-2 which disappointed fans back home.
His injury happened at the worst possible time really for everyone. India needs experienced middle-order batters like him badly against South Africa. The rehabilitation process will take several more weeks before he’s match-fit.
Fans hope Shreyas Iyer returns to full fitness without rushing things dangerously. His positive recovery update brings relief to everyone supporting Indian cricket.
