Shubman Gill did wonders in the second Test match being played between India and England at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
On Thursday, this young captain created a stir in the cricket world by scoring a historic double century in 311 balls.

Gill not only became the first captain to score a double century in Tests for India, but also became the first Asian captain to do so in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia).
Gill achieved this feat at the age of 25 years and 298 days and became the youngest Indian captain to score a double century in Tests after Tiger Pataudi.
Earlier, Virat Kohli scored 200 runs against West Indies in 2016. Gill hit 21 fours and 2 sixes in his 222-run innings, and set the record for the highest score by an Indian in Tests in England, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar (221, 1979) and Rahul Dravid (217, 2002).
What kind of history did Gill create in Test Cricket?
Gill completed his double century by taking a single towards deep fine leg off Josh Tongue’s ball. This innings not only pulled India out of a difficult situation, but also took the wind out of England’s bowlers.
His brilliant partnership with Ravindra Jadeja took India to a score of 310/5 on the first day. Gill’s innings included him in the list of legendary captains like MAK Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni.
Gill’s innings is also special because he broke Mohammad Azharuddin’s 35-year-old record (179 runs, 1990) as an Indian captain on foreign soil.
Apart from this, he became the third Indian captain to score 150+ runs in a Test before the age of 26, which already includes the names of Pataudi and Tendulkar.
Gill’s batting not only won the hearts of the fans but also surprised cricket pundits. Seeing his mix of restraint and aggression, the former England cricketer compared him to the great captains of India.
In this series, Gill’s bat had already scored 147 runs in Leeds, and now this double century has put him in the category of superstar.
For now, this innings of Shubman Gill has put India in a strong position against England.
