Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has revealed the secret of his great pairing with his batting partner Sai Sudarshan.

Gill says that the real strength of his and Sudarshan’s pair is to “Trick the opposition.”

This is the skill that makes them different from the rest of the teams in IPL 2025. Gill told that he and Sudarshan together understand the conditions of the pitch, sense the mood of the game, and then beat the bowlers.

In this IPL season, the opening pair of Gill and Sudarshan has performed brilliantly. Together, they have scored 839 runs at an average of 76.27. These include partnerships of more than 50 runs seven times and more than 100 runs three times.

Recently, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, this pair crushed Delhi Capitals by 10 wickets with an unbeaten partnership of 205 runs. This victory secured a place for Gujarat Titans in the playoffs.

Gill spoke openly in Jio Hotstar’s show Jane Bold.

He said, “Our batting style is not the same, but the left-right combination troubles the bowlers. We run fast between the wickets and we like to deceive the bowlers.”

Gill believes that in T20 cricket, especially after the impact player rule, the skill of playing the game smartly has reduced a bit. But his team is at the forefront in this matter.

Gill said that it is easy to hit big shots on a good wicket, but the real wonder is to read the pitch, play the right shot at the right time, and consistently score well. This is what makes his and Sudarshan’s pair special.

He said, “We understand the game and make a strategy accordingly. This is the secret of our victory.”

Gill gave the credit of Gujarat Titans’ success to the entire team.

He said, “This is a collective performance. Batting, bowling, fielding – everyone has done well in every department. We have been doing this for the last three years, and this trend is continuing this time too.”

Coach Ashish Nehra also has a big role in the team’s success. Gill praised him and said,

“Nehra bhai’s vision was clear from the beginning. He knew how to build the team and what would be the role of each player. Especially his work with the bowlers is amazing. People say that IPL is a game of batsmen, but we believe that if you cannot defend runs, then no matter how many runs you score, it does not matter.”

Gill also shared a funny anecdote with his friend Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek scored his first T20 International century against Zimbabwe with Gill’s bat.

Gill laughingly said, “In the Under-16 days, Abhishek took my bat and scored 80-90 runs. I was scared that my bat might break! There was a little fight, but whenever he asked for my bat, I gave it to him. And he scored a lot of runs with my bat!”

At present, this pair of Gujarat Titans and Nehra’s guidance are making a splash in IPL 2025.

It remains to be seen whether this pair will make Gujarat the champion of IPL 2025 or not.
