Mamata Banerjee just made a huge announcement for women’s cricket in India. The West Bengal Chief Minister wants to build a stadium in Darjeeling. She’s naming it after Richa Ghosh who helped India win the World Cup 2025. This will be India’s first stadium named after a female cricketer ever.

The announcement came during a special ceremony honouring Richa recently. Fans and cricket officials attended the event to celebrate her achievements. Richa received multiple awards and recognitions that day from different organizations. Her World Cup 2025 performance earned her respect across the entire country.

Richa Ghosh Stadium Will Inspire Future Stars

The new stadium will be called “Richa Cricket Stadium” officially. Mamata Banerjee believes this will motivate young girls from Bengal tremendously. They’ll see what’s possible when you work hard for your dreams. Darjeeling will get its own cricket stadium after waiting for years.

“Richa became a world champion at just 22. On behalf of the West Bengal government, we honoured her, but I want to do more. There’s about 27 acres of land in Darjeeling, and I’ve asked the mayor to plan a cricket stadium there.

“It should be named the Richa Cricket Stadium so that people remember her performance in the future and are inspired by it,” Mamata Banerjee said.

The Richa Ghosh Stadium represents more than just a building for matches. It shows that female cricketers get the same respect as men now. Young girls visiting Darjeeling can see this stadium and feel inspired. They’ll know that their state values women’s cricket achievements genuinely.

Her World Cup Numbers Were Absolutely Outstanding

Richa played eight matches during the 2025 Women’s World Cup tournament. She scored 235 runs throughout India’s winning campaign there. Her bat performed brilliantly in both the semifinal and final games. Those crucial knocks helped India lift the trophy at the end.

The Cricket Association of Bengal rewarded her with Rs 34 lakh cash. They recognized how important her final performance was for the team. She was also appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police recently. The Banga Bhushan award came her way during the same ceremony.

    Historic Moment for Women’s Cricket

No stadium in India has ever been named after a woman cricketer before. This decision breaks that pattern and sets a new standard finally. Other states might follow Bengal’s example in honouring their female players. Indian women’s cricket keeps growing stronger with such recognition and support.
