Putting an end to the speculation about whether Pakistan will host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 or not, Basit Ali, (former Pakistan cricketer) has confirmed the same. He strongly cited how soldiers are being killed in the whole country and there is no response from the government. He also conditionally remarked about the fate of the Champions Trophy where there is a big “IF” due to the current deplorable situation.
Pakistan will be hosting a few international teams on its soil such as England, Bangladesh, and West Indies shortly. Pakistan will host Bangladesh in a two-match Test series that will start from August 21-25 August, the second test match will commence from August 30 till September 3
Having won the Champions Trophy way back in 2017, their die-hard cricket fans eagerly wanted such a big event to happen on their soil.
There have been many attacks on its army in the recent past and the deplorable condition puts a big question mark on the eagerness of International players to make their way to Pakistan. Even ICC is naturally concerned about the safety and security of the players.
Basit Ali’s expects safety for the country’s ‘real’ Hero
Before the biggest International event, Pakistan will surely be a host to many international teams and Ali is hopeful that the successful completion of trips will allow the world a reason to re-think about it.
He cites the unfortunate incidents happening in Peshawar and Balochistan where soldiers are losing their lives and sadly government doesn’t seem to have any accountability.
The Pakistan Cricket Board is in a dilemma right now. Amidst the tense conditions, the reports of the Indian Team denying to come to the Champions Trophy 2025 will further prove to be a big setback.
In a ‘diminishing’ hope, he urges the government to provide the same security that the country’s prime minister and President get.
