Five years ago, on 15 August 2020, Indian cricket superstar MS Dhoni surprised everyone with a short Instagram post.
His seven-word message was: “Consider me as retired from 1929 hrs.”
That was the moment when ‘Captain Cool’ said goodbye to international cricket.

And yes, a little later his friend Suresh Raina also announced his retirement, which gave a double shock to the fans.
Dhoni’s decision was no small one. This Ranchi boy took Indian cricket to new heights.
Be it the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, or the 2013 Champions Trophy – Dhoni showed every time why he is called Thala. He is the only captain in the world to win all three major ICC titles.
‘Captain Cool’s’ performance
His statistics are also amazing. 17,266 runs in 538 international matches, 829 catches (catches and stumpings), and the calm nature that showed the way to the team in every difficulty.
10,773 runs in ODIs, an average of 50.57, 10 centuries, and a best score of 183*. 1,617 runs in T20 and 4,876 runs in Tests. These numbers show that Dhoni is not just a player, but a legend.
Dhoni quit Test cricket after the Melbourne Test in 2014, but he continued to shine in ODIs and T20s. His final six, which won India the 2011 World Cup, is still in the heart of every cricket fan.
And don’t forget, he still creates havoc on the field with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Even at the age of 44, Dhoni’s magic is the same – like an old wine, which improves with time.
Recently astrologer Greenstone Lobo predicted that Dhoni might soon retire from IPL. But fans say, “Thala Bina Cricket is incomplete!”
Dhoni’s legacy is not just of trophies but of passion and leadership that inspired millions.
