Why The Camp Moved From Abu Dhabi to South Africa
The Middle East War created serious security risks for the team. Abu Dhabi sits right in the middle of conflict zones. The England Cricket Board couldn’t risk player safety there.
Moving from Abu Dhabi to South Africa happened quickly. South Africa offers stability and excellent training facilities currently. Pretoria became the obvious choice for England’s preparations.
This isn’t England’s first South African camp this year actually. They trained in Stellenbosch last month successfully. The team knows South African conditions well already.
The Intra-Squad Series Format
Thirty players are split into two squads of fifteen each. Team Brittin and Team Heyhoe-Flint honor legendary England players. Jan Brittin and Rachael Heyhoe-Flint both won World Cups before.
Five T20 matches happen between March 10 and 27. Nat Sciver-Brunt leads Team Brittin as captain. Charlie Dean captains Team Heyhoe-Flint as vice-captain.
Jon Lewis coaches Team Brittin with his Durham experience. Luke Williams handles Team Heyhoe-Flint as an assistant coach. Charlotte Edwards oversees both squads as head coach.
