Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel has been appointed as the new bowling coach of the Indian cricket team. The appointment was confirmed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
“Yes, Morne Morkel has been appointed as the bowling coach of the senior Indian men’s team.”

Morkel’s tenure will start from September 1, 2024 and the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh will be his first assignment.
Morne Morkel joins coaching staff
Morne Morkel’s name has now joined the coaching staff of Team India under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir.
Along with Gambhir, Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate will also join the team as assistant coaches. With Morkel, the team’s bowling strategy will get a new direction.
Morne Morkel has been one of the best fast bowlers in the history of cricket. He spent his last international stint with the Pakistan cricket team, where he was serving as the bowling coach.
Apart from this, Morkel had also worked as the bowling coach of Lucknow Super Giants and worked with Gautam Gambhir for two years.
Following Morkel’s induction into the Indian team, his role will be crucial in the Test series against Bangladesh starting September 19.
His appointment will further strengthen the bowling strength of the Indian team and contribute significantly to the team’s strategy for the upcoming season.
