After India’s 5-wicket defeat in the first Test against England, the problems of new captain Shubman Gill have increased. Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin has slammed Gill.

He says that Gill has to improve his “attitude”, especially regarding fielding. Haddin said that if India has to make a comeback in the second Test to be held at Edgbaston, then Gill will have to fix his team’s fielding.
India batted brilliantly in the first Test and scored 5 centuries, but carelessness in fielding ruined all the hard work.
The team dropped 8 catches in both innings, which was taken advantage of by England opener Ben Duckett.
Duckett scored 211 runs, in which his brilliant innings of 149 runs helped England chase the target of 371 runs. This explosive performance earned Duckett the Player of the Match award and England a 1-0 lead in the series.

Haddin said on his podcast Willow Talk,
“Every top team has tremendous fielding, no matter what year it is. Gill will now have to bring the same spirit to his team. He will have to fix his attitude.”
He also indicated that the problem of poor catching was also seen in IPL 2025, which is probably now affecting the Tests as well. Haddin believes that attitude is needed more than coaching to improve fielding.
Despite having a star like Jasprit Bumrah in India’s fast bowling, fielding mistakes made the job of the bowlers more difficult. Now all eyes are on the second Test to be held at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham from July 2-6.

India will have to improve their fielding to level the series. England have included veterans like Jofra Archer, Joe Root and Chris Woakes in their team under the captaincy of Ben Stokes.
They would like to strengthen their lead further. On the other hand, there is pressure on Gill to not only prove his captaincy but also lead the team to victory.
