Former Indian cricketer and captain Harbhajan Singh is In an exclusive interview has made some important observations about the fitness and future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
In an interview with PTI, Harbhajan Singh said,
“Virat Kohli’s fitness is amazing. I can say that they can easily stay in international cricket for the next five years. Rohit Sharma can also play for at least two more years.”
“Virat Kohli is the fittest player in the team. If you ask any 19-year-old player, Virat has the power to beat him. This is proof that there is still a lot of cricket left in Virat and Rohit. If they are fit, performing well and the team is winning, they should keep playing.”
Harbhajan also spoke about the importance of Test cricket. “In red-ball cricket, experience is required. In Test cricket, the role of experienced players is important. You need experience in both limited overs and Test cricket. Experienced cricketers are needed to nurture budding talent.”
“The selectors should see that the player who is not performing well is dropped. This applies to both senior and junior players. Selection should be based on performance and fitness.”
Harbhajan also spoke about the youngsters, “The youngsters have more hunger than the seniors. Exercising for a long time reduces appetite. The performances of Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are fantastic to watch.”
On India’s loss in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Harbhajan said: “It’s part of the game. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Sri Lanka played well and won. There is no need to give much importance to this defeat.”
Harbhajan Singh’s comments are an important sign for cricket fans and experts, who point out that Indian cricket can still see some crackling cricket!
