Bad news for cricket fans around the world, England’s star batsman Jonny Bairstow has dashed his dreams of an international comeback.
After the match of The Hundred tournament in Cardiff, Bairstow clearly said that his comeback in the England team seems difficult.
The fans were heartbroken to hear this, because England is missing an aggressive player like Bairstow.
Johnny Bairstow’s brilliant last innings
Playing for Welsh Fire on Saturday, Bairstow played a brilliant innings. He scored 86 runs off 50 balls, including six fours and three sixes.
The team was chasing a target of 164 runs, but the top order failed. The score was at 55/6, then Bairstow and Chris Green took charge. Both of them shared a 100-run partnership in 53 balls and made the match exciting.
Green scored 32* off 21 balls, but Welsh Fire eventually lost by 8 runs. London Spirit won by 8 wickets with 9 balls to spare.
David Warner played an unbeaten innings of 70* and became the Player of the Match.
Great innings but uncertain future!
Speaking to BBC Sports after the match, Bairstow expressed his pain. He said exactly,
“Look, if it happens, it happens, but I think it’s doubtful, because I haven’t heard too much.”
Meaning, if there is a comeback then it’s fine, but there is not much hope because no news is being received. England fans were disappointed to hear this statement.
Bairstow was last seen playing for England in T20 in June 2024 in the semi-finals against India.
Played against Pakistan in the 2023 World Cup in ODIs, and his 100th match against India in March 2024 in Tests. In that match, he became the 17th player in history to play 100 Tests.
Bairstow’s career has always been full of ups and downs. He became a hero in 2022 in England’s ‘Badgeball’ style, but is now out. Recently, he scored 85 runs in two matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025.
Welsh Fire have lost two matches so far in The Hundred and are at number six in the table. At the same time, Oval Invincibles are at the top.
