Mumbai boy, cricket superstar, and king of finals Shreyas Iyer is in the headlines again this time, because on the strength of his captaincy, he led SoBo Mumbai Falcons to the finals of T20 Mumbai League 2025.

This is nothing new, the love story of Shreyas and finals is now on the lips of cricket fans.
The magic of Shreyas’ captaincy is seen every time on the field. In the semi-finals held on Tuesday, his team defeated Bandra Blasters by 5 wickets. The target of 131 runs was easily chased by the Falcons on the basis of Ishan Mulchandani’s unbeaten innings of 52 runs.
Akash Parkar also scored 32 runs and took 3 wickets in bowling. Now in the final, there will be a clash with Maratha Royals on June 12 at the Wankhede Stadium.
“I love captaincy” Why did Shreyas say?
Shreyas said, “I like to lead. I have been captaining since the age of 22, and every time this responsibility improves me more.”
He stays cool even under pressure. The noise of the crowd, the tension of the game, he makes it all his strength.
“I just live in the present, enjoy the energy of the crowd. I want people to cheer my name, this is what pushes me,” Shreyas said laughing.
This is his fourth final in the last one year. In May 2024, he made Kolkata Knight Riders the IPL champion. Then he made Mumbai win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Recently he took Punjab Kings to the final of IPL 2025, even though they lost.
And now the final of T20 Mumbai League! His batting has also been excellent – 604 runs in IPL 2025, 345 runs in Syed Mushtaq Ali, and explosive innings in the middle order for India in the Champions Trophy.
Why is the T20 Mumbai League a big opportunity for young players?
Shreyas believes that tournaments like the T20 Mumbai League are a big opportunity for young players.
“The Mumbai Cricket Association has provided a great platform. This league gives new talent a chance to shine,” he said.
With youngsters like Atharva Ankolekar, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, he has fun on the field and also guides them.
The final on June 12 will be a treat for the fans. Only time will tell whether Shreyas’s bat will speak or the magic of captaincy will work.
