Ravichandran Ashwin has showcased his batting prowess alongside Ravindra Jadeja. The duo has caused significant turmoil for Bangladesh’s bowlers, forming a remarkable 150-run partnership that has revitalized India’s innings.
Ashwin dazzled with a magnificent century, reaching the milestone in just 108 balls, marking the seventh of his Test career. Jadeja also contributed with a solid fifty, adding to Bangladesh’s woes as they struggled to contain the Indian batsmen.
Yashasvi Jaiswal provided a sturdy performance, scoring a half-century, but India faced setbacks in the second session, losing three wickets to find themselves at 176/6 when tea was taken on Day 1 of the first Test in Chennai.
Jaiswal made 56 runs before being dismissed, while Hasan Mahmud shone with four wickets to his name. He struck early after lunch to claim the wicket of Rishabh Pant, who was caught behind for 39. The partnership of Jaiswal and Pant, which yielded 62 runs for the fourth wicket, was crucial in helping India recover from a shaky start.
The Indian side lost their captain Rohit Sharma, along with Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, to the relentless Hasan under a gloomy sky. The hosts began cautiously, with Rohit fortunate to escape an earlier dismissal thanks to an umpire’s call after Bangladesh’s review for LBW.
