Kapil Dev thinks Shubman Gill will do well as India’s new captain. The cricket legend says Gill has what it takes. He wants the team to win in England.
Shubman Gill becomes India’s Test captain for the England tour. Rohit Sharma retired so Gill takes over now. The series starts at Headingley on June 20th.
This IND vs ENG 2025 series means a lot for Indian cricket. England always gives India a tough fight at home. India last won a Test series there in 2007.
Rahul Dravid was captain when India won that series. Before him, only two captains won in England. Ajit Wadekar did it in 1971 and Kapil Dev in 1986.

Kapil Dev Says Gill Will Win
Kapil Dev really likes what he sees in Gill. He calls him a “good and talented boy” in Hindi. Dev thinks Gill will bring the trophy back to India.
“Achha aur talented baccha hai [He’s a good and talented boy] – and now, the captain of the Indian team. I’m sure he will return with the trophy in hand. We feel very proud and wish them all the luck”. Kapil Dev said.
Dev doesn’t want people calling this team weak or new. He says young players get better when they play big matches. New players today become stars tomorrow.

Big Changes in the Team
Many senior players stopped playing Tests this year. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ashwin all retired recently. These three played for India for many years.
But some good players are still there. Jadeja and Bumrah know how to win matches. KL Rahul bats well and Pant helps as vice-captain.
Many players will play in England for the first time. Sai Sudharsan, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana were picked. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Reddy, and Washington Sundar also made the team.
