Yashasvi Jaiswal’s half-century helped India take control after lunch today. The young batsman played some amazing shots at Headingley Cricket Ground. His batting made all Indian fans very happy and proud.

The first Test match between India and England continued after the lunch break. Jaiswal and Shubman Gill batted together really well. They scored runs quickly and safely against England’s bowlers.
England won the coin toss earlier and chose to bowl first. The pitch was dry but helped the bowlers a little bit. Shubman Gill became captain for the first time ever. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are retired from test cricket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Shows His Class
Yashasvi Jaiswal reached his 11th fifty soon after lunch. He hit the ball beautifully through covers and square. His back-foot cuts looked perfect against the fast bowlers.
The left-handed batsman scored his runs with great style. He hit 12 runs in just one over from Woakes. That over had three boundaries including two gorgeous drives. Jaiswal also cut Bashir for four runs to reach fifty.
Shubman Gill played excellent cricket from the other end. He scored 46 runs off just 51 balls after lunch. Gill punished every loose ball that came his way. He kept the scoreboard moving with quick singles too.
The pair added good runs together for the third wicket. This partnership put India in a strong position. India crossed 175 runs early in the afternoon session.
India Takes Control
India reached 177 runs losing only 2 wickets by tea time. KL Rahul and Jaiswal had started well with 50+ runs. But Rahul got out for 42 runs before lunch.
New player Sai Sudharsan got out for zero runs earlier. This disappointed everyone watching the match. But Yashasvi Jaiswal’s half-century made up for that loss.

Jaiswal almost got out LBW to England’s appeal. But the umpire called it a no-ball luckily. This saved Jaiswal from going back to the pavilion.
Looking Forward
Players observed silence before play started today. They remembered victims of the Ahmedabad air crash. Everyone wore black bands to show respect.
India went into tea break feeling very confident. The IND vs ENG 2025 series had started perfectly for them. England’s bowlers looked tired and frustrated by then.
