India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir shared a heartfelt message on Monday after Shubman Gill’s men edged England by just six runs in a thrilling Day 5 finish at The Oval, ending the five-match series locked at 2-2.

Star fast bowler Mohammed Siraj (5/104) rose to the occasion with one of his best spells under pressure, finishing the series as the leading wicket-taker with 23 scalps across both teams.

England looked unbeatable. Chasing 374, they were cruising at 301/3 with Joe Root and Harry Brook dominating. But India’s bowlers flipped the script:

    • Mohammed Siraj delivered a sensational five-wicket haul.
    • Prasidh Krishna ripped through the middle order with four wickets.

From 301/3, England collapsed to 367 all out, giving India their narrowest-ever overseas Test win.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir summed up the team’s spirit in one fiery sentence:

“We’ll win some, we’ll lose some… but we’ll NEVER surrender!”

That message has instantly become the anthem of this young Indian side.

Gambhir stayed firm on his plan to go with an extra batter over a specialist bowler—a call that raised plenty of eyebrows. But skipper Shubman Gill threw his full weight behind the decision, later crediting Gambhir for instilling a strong sense of belief in the team.

Since taking over as coach, Gambhir has been under the spotlight. India had lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and struggled at home, leading critics to question his methods. But his message to the team remained clear: fight till the very end.

Captain Shubman Gill praised him after the match:

“We are a young team, but we don’t want to be seen as a young team. We want to be seen as a gun team.”

This victory seemed to prove that philosophy right.

    Shubman Gill :

"Before the series, Gautam Gambhir said that we are surely a young team but we don't want to be seen as a young team, WE WANT TO BE SEEN AS A GUN TEAM. And we showed that today."@GautamGambhir 🦁 🔥 pic.twitter.com/r4prTjQNHD

As soon as Siraj claimed the final wicket, India’s dressing room erupted. Players mobbed Gambhir, and Gill shared a long, emotional hug with his coach. Videos from the celebration show what this win meant—not just to the players, but to the entire support staff.

The series wasn’t short of fireworks. Before the match, Gambhir had a heated exchange with the Oval pitch curator, which made headlines. Critics called him “too aggressive,” but his response on the field—through his team—spoke louder than words.

As India walked off the Oval ground, they did more than draw a Test series—they rewrote a narrative. Under immense pressure, a young side delivered maturity, and their coach offered an unwavering motto—never surrender.
