England’s star batsman Joe Root has created a stir in Test cricket. In the fourth Test against India, Root did wonders and left behind two legends of cricket, India’s Rahul Dravid and South Africa’s Jacques Kallis.

What is the whole matter?
Actually, Root has now scored 13,290 runs in Test cricket, which is more than Dravid’s 13,288 and Kallis’ 13,289 runs.
Now he has come to the third place in the list of highest run scorers in Test cricket, just a little behind Sachin Tendulkar (15,921 runs) and Ricky Ponting (13,378 runs).
IND vs ENG: Root’s record breaking blast
Root also created history at Old Trafford. He has become the first batsman to score 1000 Test runs on this ground.
Not only this, he is the third batsman from England to score more than 1000 runs on two different grounds (Lord’s and Old Trafford).
Before this, only Alastair Cook and Graham Gooch were able to do this feat. Root has scored 2166 runs at Lord’s, which is a big record in itself.
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting praised Root
Ponting told Sky Sports, “If he keeps playing like this, it could happen today. It’s a great day for batting and it’s been a great career for Joe. How he’s gone from a player who couldn’t score more than fifty to getting to a hundred. Now it feels like every time he gets to fifty, you pencil him in for a hundred or a big hundred.”
Ponting further said, “Just look at some stats, 37 Test hundreds, 13,000 runs, what a phenomenal career he’s had so far.”
Ponting also added that Root’s passion shows no signs of abating.
Ponting, referring to Sachin’s record, said,
“There’s still a lot left to do. He’s what, 35? It doesn’t feel like his passion for the game is going anywhere. His hunger for runs has probably grown even more in the last few years. Can he chase Sachin? Let’s see. He might just do it,”
