Great news for Indian cricket fans – Shubman Gill is back and ready to play. The BCCI just confirmed he’s cleared all his fitness tests successfully. Gill hurt his neck badly during the first Test against South Africa. That injury kept him out of the entire ODI series. Now he’s done with rehab and passed every medical check needed.

How Did Shubman Gill Get Injured?
The neck injury happened during the opening Test match against the Proteas. Gill was batting when something went wrong and he felt the pain immediately. The medical staff checked him out and decided pulling him from the squad was necessary. Nobody wanted to risk making the injury worse by letting him continue playing.
KL Rahul took over as captain for the ODI series while Gill recovered from action. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stepped up during this period to fill the gap. Even Shreyas Iyer, who was named vice-captain, got injured and couldn’t play either. India missed these key players in their lineup for the matches.
What the BCCI Medical Team Said About His Recovery
The Sports Science and Medicine team put out an official statement about Gill’s condition recently. They confirmed he meets every single fitness criteria needed to play international cricket again. Gill spent weeks working hard at the CoE getting his strength back properly. The medical staff didn’t rush anything and made sure he was completely ready.
“Shubman Gill has successfully completed his rehabilitation at CoE and has met the requisite criteria to be declared fit for all formats of the game,” the communication reads.
He’s now cleared to play all formats of cricket. The rehabilitation program worked perfectly and Gill feels strong enough to handle intense matches. His return gives India a massive boost before the T20I series kicks off soon.
When Will Gill Play Next?
December 9 is when the first T20I kicks off against South Africa. Gill’s jumping straight back into action for all three games now that he’s fully fit.
South Africa smashed India 2-0 in the Test series already. The ODI series stands tied at 1-1 with one match left to play. Having Gill back in the lineup changes things completely for India’s T20I campaign ahead.
