Phil Salt brutally told England to face facts about where they stand in T20 cricket now. The English keeper didn’t hold back saying India runs the show in T20s these days. His brutal honesty shows how much India has changed the whole game with their attacking mindset. England thought they owned T20 cricket but Salt’s admitting those glory days are long gone.

What Phil Salt Actually Said About India
Salt gave India proper credit for playing T20 cricket in a way nobody else does. He talked about that 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final win over India like it was massive. Beating them back then took everything England had because India was already getting scary good. After lifting the 2024 T20 World Cup trophy, India hasn’t dropped a single T20I series since.
“In the World Cup semi-final we won in Australia against India, we were absolutely the trendsetters in the global game, and had been for a few years. The way we played that night was incredible,” Phil Salt said.
India is number one in the ICC rankings and looks completely unstoppable right now honestly. Salt said India looked like they couldn’t lose during that 2024 World Cup semi-final recently. The way India went from being just another good team to absolute bosses happened crazy fast. England used to be the team everyone copied in T20s but those tables have turned.
“But since then, I feel India have made the switch and are now the trendsetters in the global game, leading the pack. That World Cup semi-final in Guyana showed it again,” Salt said.
“On that day, especially at that venue, they would have taken some serious beating. The landscape is always changing, and hopefully in the not-too-distant future we’ll be back on top,” he added.
India’s Next Big Test Coming Up
Suryakumar Yadav is taking India into battle against South Africa for five T20 matches starting December 9. This series will show if India can keep this insane winning run going or not. The squad looks hungry and ready to prove Salt’s praise wasn’t just talk from him.
What’s Waiting at the 2026 T20 World Cup
India and Sri Lanka host the 2026 T20 World Cup, so India gets home crowds backing them. They’re stuck in a group with Pakistan, USA, Netherlands, and Namibia for that tournament.
The opening game against the USA happens in Mumbai and the atmosphere will be absolutely mental there. Salt’s comments are a proper wake-up call that England better step up their game fast.
