The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is soon going to announce its squad for the two-Test series between India and West Indies.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said on Sunday that the Indian Test team selection will take place on September 23 or 24.
This series will be the first major test for new Test captain Shubman Gill at home.

Team Selection Date and Preparation
Speaking to reporters at BCCI headquarters, Saikia said, “The selection for the Indian Test team for the upcoming Test series against West Indies will be held on September 23 or 24… The selection meeting will be held online.”
The first Test will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 2, while the second Test will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10. India recently drew the five-Test series against England 2-2, which was part of the 2025-27 World Test Championship.
Now, under Gill’s captaincy, India is poised for a strong performance in this series.
West Indies’ Strong Strategy
The West Indies have recalled experienced batsmen Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze to their squad. Left-arm spinner Khary Pierre has also been included in the Test team for the first time.
West Indies coach Daren Sammy said, “Tagenarine Chanderpaul’s return will help turn around our fortunes at the top of the order given recent struggles, while Alick Athanaze has been included for his strength and qualities against spin bowling.”
Sammy also said, “Khary has been included as our second spinner for the first time, as we expect conditions to be helpful.”
Roston Chase will captain the West Indies team and Jomel Warrican will be the vice-captain. The team also includes fast bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph.
India is ranked fourth and West Indies eighth in the Test rankings. This series will be an opportunity for both teams to gain crucial points in the World Test Championship.
