Two Indian cricket legends are heading to Europe for business! Rahul Dravid and Ravichandran Ashwin to invest in a brand new T20 tournament. They’re buying the Glasgow franchise together with other investors.

BBC Sport broke this exciting news recently. An Indian consortium is purchasing the Glasgow-based team. The European T20 League launches this summer across six cities.
What is the European T20 League
The European T20 League features six teams from different cities. Amsterdam, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Rotterdam, and Dublin got franchises. Five teams have found owners already this year.
Rotterdam’s franchise went to South African cricket stars. Faf du Plessis, Heinrich Klaasen, and Jonty Rhodes lead that group. They’re bringing their experience to the European T20 League.
Australian and New Zealand investors bought the Amsterdam, Belfast, and Edinburgh teams. Only Dublin remains without an owner currently. The tournament starts later this summer across Europe.
Ashwin’s Possible Playing Role
Will Ravichandran Ashwin actually play in the European T20 League? Nobody knows for sure yet honestly. The 39-year-old spinner retired from international cricket in December 2024.
He also left the IPL last year surprisingly. Ashwin planned to join Australia’s Big Bash League recently. But a knee injury requiring surgery sidelined him in December.
Ashwin played 106 Tests, 116 ODIs, and 65 T20Is for India. He took 765 international wickets throughout his career! Having him involved would be huge for the league.
Interestingly, Ashwin played for Scotland way back in 2003. He was an overseas professional during the county competitions. So he has European cricket experience already.
Rahul Dravid’s Connection to Europe
Rahul Dravid and Ravichandran Ashwin to Invest makes perfect sense actually. Dravid played 11 games in Ireland’s National Cricket League before. He scored 600 runs including three centuries there!
Dravid represented India in 164 Tests and 344 ODIs. He scored over 24,000 runs with 48 centuries total. His batting records speak for themselves completely.
He coached India’s men’s team from November 2021 to June 2024. Now he’s entering the franchise ownership business instead. The European T20 League gets serious credibility with these names attached!
