The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is set for November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This marks the second year in a row that the IPL mega auction is being held overseas following Dubai in 2024.
The IPL governing council announced that 10 franchises will offer 204 slots in the auction with 1,574 players registered, including 1,165 Indians and 409 overseas players.
“The IPL player registration officially closed on November 4, 2024, with an impressive total of 1,574 players (1,165 Indian and 409 overseas) signing up to be part of the mega TATA IPL 2025 Player Auction, which will be held over two days on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,” stated the IPL Media Advisory in a press release.
The report highlighted that 320 of the registered players are capped, 1,224 are uncapped, and 30 come from associate nations. The auction dates coincide with the third and fourth days of the first Test between India and Australia in Perth.
The auction will feature 48 capped Indian players, 272 capped international players, 965 uncapped Indian players, and 104 uncapped international players. Notably 152 uncapped Indian players and three uncapped international players who have previously played in the IPL are also included.
Among the 409 overseas players the highest numbers are from South Africa (91) followed by Australia (76), England (52), New Zealand (39), and the West Indies (33). Sri Lanka and Afghanistan each have 29 players with 13 from Bangladesh.
The BCCI also clarified that each franchise can fill a maximum squad of 25 players, with 204 total slots available for the TATA IPL 2025 Player Auction.
Across 10 franchises 46 players have been retained. Teams can retain up to six players, with a maximum of five capped and two uncapped. Franchises can retain these players before the auction or use the Right-to-Match (RTM) option during the auction.
