In the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 5 wickets to enter the final.

MI batted first and scored 203/6, in response to which PBKS won by scoring 207/5 in 19 overs on the basis of captain Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant unbeaten innings of 87* runs.
With this win, PBKS will now play the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Ahmedabad on June 3, 2025.

Mumbai lost the toss and batted first and scored 203/6 on the back of knocks by Suryakumar Yadav (44 runs, 26 balls, 4 fours, 3 sixes), N. Tilak Verma (44 runs, 29 balls, 2 fours, 2 sixes), and Naman Dheer (37 runs, 18 balls, 7 fours).
Jonny Bairstow (38 runs, 24 balls) and Hardik Pandya (15 runs, 13 balls) also made useful contributions. Rohit Sharma (8 runs, 7 balls) was dismissed early.

Chasing a target of 204 runs, PBKS got off to a poor start when Prabhsimran Singh (6 runs, 9 balls) and Priyansh Arya (6 runs, 9 balls) got out to bat first. (20 runs, 10 balls) was dismissed early.
Josh Inglis (38 runs, 21 balls, 5 fours, 2 sixes) and Nehal Wadhera (48 runs, 29 balls, 4 fours, 2 sixes) shared 59 and 84 runs for the third and fourth wickets respectively. Captain Shreyas Iyer (87* runs, 41 balls, 5 fours, 8 sixes) remained unbeaten and handled the innings and ensured victory in the 19th over along with Marcus Stoinis (2* runs, 2 balls).

Decisive moment of the match
The turning point of the match was the 16th over, when Ashwani Kumar dismissed Nehal Wadhera (48) was dismissed, followed by Shashank Singh (2) being run out, leaving PBKS at 169/5. But Shreyas Iyer broke the pressure by hitting 6,6,6 against Ashwani Kumar in the 18th over.
Iyer hit two sixes and a four against Reece Topley in the 19th over to reduce the need from 35 runs in 13 balls to 14 runs in 7 balls, helping PBKS win comfortably.
PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2: Effect of rain
The start of the match was delayed by two hours due to rain, and the pitch had to be covered after the toss. However, a full 20-20 over match was possible after the weather cleared.
Had the match been abandoned due to rain, PBKS would have progressed to the final by virtue of being at the top of the points table, as they had secured 19 points (against MI’s 16 points) in the league stage.

With this win for PBKS, they will now play the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on June 3, 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
RCB had made it to the final after defeating PBKS by 8 wickets in Qualifier 1, where Josh Hazlewood and Suyash Sharma’s bowling bundled out PBKS for 101 runs.
