14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi created a stir in IPL 2025, this young opener of Rajasthan Royals (RR) surprised everyone by scoring a century in 35 balls against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur.
7 fours, 11 sixes and 101 runs in 38 balls, the fastest Indian century in IPL history, but the legendary Sunil Gavaskar said something about this shining star, which is catching everyone’s attention.

Break in praising Vaibhav!
Gavaskar clearly said that Vaibhav should not be praised too much.
“Don’t hype so much, let him play his natural game.”
According to him, Vaibhav had shown his ability even before the auction. Scoring a century in the youth Test against Australia at the age of 13 is no joke, With a coach like Rahul Dravid, he is getting better and better.
But Gavaskar fears that too much praise could become a burden on Vaibhav.
Gavaskar warned that experienced bowlers would target Vaibhav.
“Don’t get into the habit of hitting a six off the first ball. Bowlers will bowl short balls, and mistakes can happen. If you start thinking too much, the pressure will increase,” he told Geostar.
Out on zero, RR’s dream shattered!
Gavaskar’s words proved true, Vaibhav was out on zero in just two balls in Jaipur against Mumbai Indians. While trying to play a big shot on Deepak Chahar’s fuller ball, he got caught at mid-on.
RR’s entire batting lineup fell apart. Chasing a target of 218 runs, the team collapsed for 117 runs in 16.1 overs. This defeat shattered all hopes of RR in the IPL 2025 playoffs.
What is Vaibhav’s next step?
RR bought Vaibhav for 1.1 crores in the auction. He got the chance to open after Sanju Samson’s injury, and showed his brilliant performance in just two matches.
But Gavaskar says that at this age Vaibhav should be allowed to play without any pressure.
