History was made at the IPL 2026 auction today in Abu Dhabi. Kolkata Knight Riders shocked everyone by spending a massive amount on one player. They bought Australian all-rounder Cameron Green for a whopping INR 25.20 crore.

This deal broke all previous records for overseas players in tournament history. The bidding war for Cam Green got intense between multiple franchises. KKR didn’t back down and kept raising their paddle until they won.
Cameron Green now become the most expensive foreign player ever bought. The previous record belonged to Mitchell Starc who went for INR 24.75 crore. Interestingly, KKR had also bought Starc in the 2024 auction at that price.
How the Money Gets Split
The payment structure for Cam Green’s contract is quite interesting. Out of the total INR 25.20 crore amount, he gets INR 18 crore directly. That’s his capped salary which goes straight into his bank account.
The remaining INR 7.20 crore goes to the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The BCCI keeps this portion as per the tournament rules. This split happens for all player contracts above a certain amount.
Cameron Green joins an elite club with this signing. Only three Australian cricketers have crossed the INR 20 crore mark now. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are the other two names on this list.
Why KKR Spent Big on Cameron Green
Cam Green played 29 matches during his journey. Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore were his previous teams. He scored 707 runs with the team. He smashes the ball at a strike rate of 153.69 which is seriously impressive.
Green bowls quick deliveries and also launches massive sixes when batting. KKR needed someone who could do both jobs really well. That’s exactly why they didn’t hesitate to break the bank for this Australian star.
Cam Green’s IPL 2026 auction signing shows how much value teams place on star players. KKR fans are already happy to see him wearing their purple and gold jersey. The Australian will surely add classy strength to the team’s lineup next season.
