KKR’s biggest signing is already facing tough questions just one match into the season. The massive price tag brings massive expectations from fans and critics alike. Not everyone seems happy with what they’ve seen so far from him.

Australia’s head coach decided to step in and address the growing criticism publicly. His comments reveal deeper issues about how cricket fans judge modern all-rounders today. The debate around player valuations versus actual performances continues to get louder every year.
Why Cameron Green Didn’t Bowl in KKR’s Opening Match
Cameron Green sat out of bowling duties during KKR’s first game against the Mumbai Indians completely. A back niggle stopped him from touching the ball that entire night. Cricket Australia is managing his workload very carefully after his recent surgery.
Medical staff gave a clear timeline of 10-12 days before he bowls again. KKR management knew about this situation well before the tournament started obviously. They planned their strategies keeping his temporary batting-only role in mind from day one.
The team scored 220 runs but lost the match by 6 wickets badly. Green scored just 18 runs off 10 balls before Shardul Thakur dismissed him. Fans expected more from their Rs 25.2 crore investment after that performance.
KKR missed having their complete all-rounder option available that night desperately. Varun Chakravarthy went wicketless while other bowlers struggled against Mumbai’s aggressive openers throughout. The bowling attack looked thin without Green’s pace and experience backing them.
What Australia Coach Andrew McDonald Said About Green
Andrew McDonald spoke on SEN Radio defending his star all-rounder from harsh criticism. He pointed out that fans set unrealistic standards for modern all-rounders consistently. Very few players average 45 with the bat and under 30 with the ball.
“There’s huge expectation within the IPL, and there’s huge expectation with any all-rounder that shapes an Australian team. It’s not unfair, but there is an expectation around all-rounders that they contribute in a certain way,” McDonald said.
“It’s almost like they want them to average 45 with the bat and average less than 30 with the ball. And there’s been very few that do that. I’m sure that his career will trend upwards…We know he’s good enough. He’s just got to balance out all those expectations, and in particular, playing all three formats, which is a significant challenge for any cricketer,” he added.
The Australian coach backed Green’s quality and potential despite current struggles showing up. He admitted the high IPL price tag creates extra pressure on young shoulders. But McDonald believes Green’s career will trend upwards as he matures further.
KKR’s Future Plans With Cameron Green
Captain Ajinkya Rahane spoke about improved team balance once Green starts bowling regularly. The squad needs his all-round skills to compete against stronger opponents ahead. His return to full fitness will solve many tactical problems for management.
Green’s long-term value for KKR remains very high despite this shaky start. The franchise invested heavily expecting him to deliver consistently across multiple seasons.
