Rajkumar Sharma defended India’s veteran stars facing criticism about proving themselves again. Virat Kohli’s childhood coach called it “funny” that legends must justify themselves. Both Rohit Sharma and Kohli earned respect through years of dominance.

The India vs Australia ODI series marks Rohit-Virat’s first appearance since the Champions Trophy. They stayed away from international cricket for months after that tournament. Rohit returns after losing his captaincy to Shubman Gill recently.
Nothing Left to Prove
Rajkumar Sharma insisted Kohli’s career achievements speak louder than any doubts.
“Virat doesn’t have to prove anything, he has achieved everything, the way he has played, the way he has won the matches for the country, everyone knows his contribution. He is well prepared, and whenever he is well prepared, the results are always good, and I have full faith that he will do well as usual,” Sharma said.
The coach praised Rohit equally for his massive contributions to Indian cricket. Both players have already become legends through consistent match-winning performances delivered everywhere.
“I would like to say that both of them are great players, and they have nothing left to prove, because the whole of India knows their contribution to Indian cricket, so if they have to prove themselves at this stage, then it will be a very funny thing,” he added.
Their long absence worries selectors about current form and fitness levels. Yet demanding they prove themselves again seems disrespectful, according to Sharma. These players won countless series and tournaments representing India brilliantly over the decades.

Multiple Series Matter More
Aakash Chopra echoed similar thoughts about judging both veterans fairly ahead. One series against Australia cannot define careers spanning 15 years. Kohli and Rohit deserve evaluation across multiple contests before final decisions.
Their experience matters hugely during pressure situations in big matches. Young players lack the composure these legends bring naturally to teams. India needs their wisdom to guide the next generation through tough tours.
Respect Their Legacy
Sharma believes both players earned the right to play without constant scrutiny. Their records justify automatic selection based on past achievements alone, honestly. Management must balance sentiment with current performance while making tough calls.

The Australia series tests whether age caught up with them finally. But legends deserve patience during temporary rough patches faced naturally. Rohit and Kohli built incredible legacies that nobody can erase through criticism.
