England fast bowler James Anderson has announced his retirement from Test cricket. The England cricket legend is 42 years old, but his love and enthusiasm for cricket is still young.
Anderson, who retired from Test cricket last month with 704 wickets to his name, revealed while speaking to the PA news agency that he still wants to stay connected with the world of cricket. Despite the end of Test cricket for England, Anderson is considering a return to white-ball cricket.
James Anderson told the PA news agency
“I can be a bit dismissive because I know very well that I won’t be playing for England again, but I haven’t made a decision on my actual cricket career yet,”
“There’s definitely a bit of interest with the shorter formats because I haven’t played a franchise game before. Watching The Hundred this year, moving the ball around, I think I can do well there.”
Anderson last played List A cricket in 2019 and his last T20 match was in 2014. Despite this, he believes he still has a chance to contribute in the shorter format of cricket.
ECB Managing Director Rob Key has already announced that Anderson will take up the role of bowling mentor of the national team.
Anderson says that after the end of the England summer, they will seriously think about whether they want to return to any form of cricket next year.
“Once this summer is over, I can sit down and seriously think about whether I want to play cricket again next year in any way,” Anderson said. I am ready to think about any kind of cricket, I am still fully fit to play and I am not keeping myself away from anything.”
“It’s hard to know if people are willing to play me in something like this, so we’ll wait and see. I know it’s been a long time since I’ve played this game and my age will come up again, but I really feel I’m good enough to play that format of cricket.”
The prospect of James Anderson’s return could be great news for cricket lovers. His age might be an issue, but his experience and hard work can make him effective in the shorter formats as well.
At the moment, the eyes of the cricketing world are on James Anderson, who is perhaps heading towards a new beginning in the next chapter of cricket.
