Glenn McGrath gave important advice to the Indian cricket team about Jasprit Bumrah. The Australian bowling legend thinks Bumrah needs long breaks from cricket completely. His unique bowling style puts too much pressure on his body.

McGrath watched Bumrah bowl many times and noticed something worrying about him. The Indian fast bowler’s action looks different from that of other players around. This strange bowling style can hurt his back and legs badly.
India’s team management often rests Bumrah during less important cricket series now. They worry he might get injured if he plays too much. The England tour showed this problem when Bumrah missed several matches.
McGrath said Bumrah can win matches for India when he plays well. But the team needs to protect their best bowler carefully. Too much cricket without rest will break down his body.
“You want him to be playing as many games as possible because he is a match-winner. But it is a tough one because he has a unique bowling style. He puts more stress on his body than other fast bowlers,” said McGrath.
Why Bumrah Needs More Rest
Fast bowlers need at least two months of complete rest every year. McGrath learned this lesson during his own long cricket career successfully. Constant playing without breaks causes serious injuries to bowling arms and backs.

Bumrah’s workload became a big worry for Indian cricket experts recently. He bowls really fast, which puts enormous stress on his joints. The team doctors want him to take longer breaks now.
“You want your best bowler bowling (for long), and him wanting to bowl as well. If Bumrah bowls in short spells, the batting team can just get through those three to four overs,” he added.
“India needs another group of fast bowlers coming through to ensure Bumrah does not have to bowl long spells. India needs other bowlers who can equally carry the workload.”
McGrath thinks India should find more good fast bowlers quickly. This will help reduce Bumrah’s bowling workload during important cricket series. Having backup bowlers lets Bumrah rest when his body hurts.
Cricket’s Future Looks Bright
The Australian legend feels excited about Test cricket’s current popularity worldwide. The recent series between India, Australia, and England created amazing entertainment for fans. These competitive matches brought back interest in longer cricket formats.
“It is important for a fast bowler to have an off-season. If you just keep playing year in, year out, things (injuries) will happen. That is the nature of the beast,” he said.
“Good bowling action, good genetics, and good work off the field are needed to get strong. There may be a freak who can bowl all day every day, but 99.9% of the fast bowlers need an off-season.”
McGrath believes proper rest will keep Bumrah playing for many years. The Indian bowler has incredible skills that can trouble batsmen everywhere. Smart management will extend his cricket career significantly and help India.
