Jasprit Bumrah’s absence from WI Tests remains uncertain as India manages his workload carefully. Test captain Shubman Gill spoke about Bumrah’s participation in the upcoming home series. The team will decide his involvement on a match-by-match basis going forward here.

Gill made it clear there’s no fixed plan for Bumrah’s bowling schedule yet. They’ll check how the pacer feels before each Test match starts this month. India wants to keep their star bowler fresh for bigger challenges ahead later.
No Pre-Set Plan for Bumrah’s Workload
The team management won’t lock Bumrah into playing all five Tests automatically now. Gill explained they’ll monitor how many overs he’s bowled in previous games first. The decision depends on Bumrah’s body feedback and overall comfort levels during practice.
“The call on Bumrah will be match to match, depending on how much he has bowled in a Test and how the bowlers feel. Nothing is decided yet,” Gill said.
Bumrah just finished playing the Asia Cup 2025, where he grabbed seven wickets in total. He looked good out there, but managing fast bowlers always needs smart planning. Jasprit Bumrah’s absence from WI Tests in some matches could help him stay injury-free.

India’s Strategy for West Indies Series
Shubman Gill mentioned picking an extra pacer for the opening Test is possible. Pitch conditions will play a huge role in their final playing eleven selection. The captain wants bowlers who feel confident and ready to bowl long spells.
“You will get to know the XI tomorrow. Conditions and weather are tempting to play an extra seamer. We will take a call tomorrow after seeing the moisture in the pitch,” he added.
India won the Asia Cup without dropping a single match under Suryakumar Yadav recently. That victory gave Bumrah valuable game time after his recent injury comeback period. Gill feels mentally sharp despite playing lots of cricket in recent months.

Captain’s Warning to the West Indies
Gill sent a strong message to the visiting West Indies team yesterday afternoon. He promised India would play aggressive cricket throughout this home Test series.
“No easy options… we want to play tough cricket. Every Test in England went deep. We are ready to play that tough cricket. We are playing in India after a year; any series is important. We will be looking to dominate the series,” he said.
The hosts plan to dominate every session and put constant pressure on opponents. Jasprit Bumrah’s absence from WI Tests won’t weaken India’s bowling attack at all here.
