WPL 2025 DC vs GG After Match Statement

Jess Jonassen (Player of the Match):

Yeah, I loved it. Bit surprised with the opportunity. Bit of a luck early in the innings but happy to be there till the end. We sort of thought with the spinners that the ball held a bit towards the end. With the seamers, it was swinging early so tried to play as straight as possible. I mean, it’s huge for my confidence. I have enjoyed my batting and really pleased to have done the job tonight. It was nice to be able to come off and pleased to have the trust of captain and the coach. It’s amazing (On batting with Shafali).

The way our seamers came back today and bowled really well upfront. Marizanne Kapp is world class and she showed that again. Titas Sadhu came in for her first game this season and took a big wicket also. It’s nice to be able to have a lot of different options. Meg will say sometimes too many options, but it’s nice to know that in any certain situation, we have someone to put their hand up and do the job for the team

Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals Women captain):

Yeah, it was a little bit less stressful as compared to our other wins. The bowlers set it up pretty nicely. Happy with the win. Kappy and Shikha did a great job at the start to take early wickets. It made things easier throughout. It was a good contest between bat and ball. There was a little in it for the bowlers. If you hit a good length, there was a bit of nibble and swing. Batters also managed to get in and dominate, but bowlers also had it if they hit the right areas.

It’s about improving each game and tightening up the areas that we didn’t do yet. In a tournament like this, you should have momentu,m and once you get on a roll, it makes a big difference. It’s pretty close competition at the table, but we need to keep winning. Certainly nice to turn things around tonight.

    Shafali Verma (Delhi Capitals):

It was a bit tough in the first three overs of the second innings. It was holding up and shaping a bit. My thought was to stay in the middle till the end, really happy with the knock but disappointed with not getting the 50. We don’t talk about chasing the total, we try to chase what is in our range and we’ll take time and play. As an individual, we aim at building an innings and winning by 10 wickets.

Kappie and Shikha tell us if there is any movement and that helps us. The bowlers were getting some assistance and they told us to play easy. If it is a small boundary, I have to hit it (laughs)

    Ashleigh Gardner (captain, Gujarat Giants):

If you look at their bowling line up, they had four international quicks. It was very difficult to come back from after losing early wickets in the powerplay. We didn’t do well with the bat but Dottin and Bharathi batted well. I think we know the potential they have and haven’t had much opportunity.

It comes as the expense of us losing too many wickets but it was good to see them out in the middle and have a fifty-run partnership. Surprised to see Jonno walk out to bat early. Kashvee bowled well, she showed her class and is very excited. There is nothing to be concerned about as such, we have lost too many wickets in the powerplay and it makes your job hard. The powerplay is tough to bat and as international we need to take things on and take it through middle overs and death. If we look at what we did against RCB in the first game, there was a lot of things we did right and we’ll learn from that one
