India’s team is preparing for the second and final Test match of the series against Bangladesh. The match between India and Bangladesh will take place at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, starting on 27 September.
Kanpur Stadium to host the second test
The Green Park Stadium has hosted many important Test matches. The stadium usually has black soil pitches, which tend to have lower bounce. As the match goes on, the pitch is expected to slow down. The hosts have won seven times, lost three times, and drawn 13 times in 23 Tests at this venue.
Kanpur is set to host a Test match after a break of three years. Arvind Kumar Shrivastava, the secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, pointed out the negative impact of not having international games during this time.
“We weren’t given any international cricket for three years and it had a negative effect. We had domestic matches, but without international games, the whole set-up, from outfield to drainage and everything, went awry. We had to refurbish the whole thing,” Shrivastava told RevSportz.
Kanpur also hosted India’s 500th Test in 2016. The last match at this venue was against New Zealand in November 2021. Debutant Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel showed great determination as the last-wicket pair. From India’s point of view, the pitch did not deteriorate as expected during that match.
According to RevSportz, two pitches are prepared for the second Test match. It will be up to the Indian team management to decide which pitch to use for the match. RevSportz reported that Shrivastava confirmed that one pitch is good for fast bowlers, while the other is expected to help spinners.
The hosts used a hard red-soil pitch in the first Test in Chennai, which benefited their fast bowlers. As they prepare for the second Test, there are questions about their team lineup.
