The ICC Men’s Test Rankings have changed with Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah reclaiming the No. 1 spot for bowlers. He surpassed teammate Ravichandran Ashwin and earned this ranking after taking six wickets in India’s recent seven-wicket victory against Bangladesh in Kanpur.
In that same match, Ashwin took five wickets and is very close to Bumrah, just one point behind him with a rating of 870 points. Bangladesh also saw improvements in their players, with Mehidy Hasan moving up four spots to 18th and Shakib Al Hasan rising five places to 28th.
Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya achieved a career milestone, climbing one spot to joint seventh in the Test bowling rankings after his impressive performance against New Zealand.
However, this week’s rankings highlight India’s strong position after their series win over Bangladesh, which puts them in a good place for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was named Player of the Match against Bangladesh after scoring 72 and 51 runs, which helped him rise two places to third in the Test batter rankings. He is now behind only England’s Joe Root and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson. Additionally Virat Kohli climbed six spots to sixth after scoring 47 and 29 not out.
In other rankings, Sri Lankan player Kamindu Mendis moved up five spots to 11th after scoring another century against New Zealand. Other Sri Lankan players like Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews also made gains in the Test batter rankings. In all-rounder rankings Mehidy Hasan rose to fifth, while India’s Ravindra Jadeja remains in the lead.
In white-ball formats, Australia’s Steve Smith moved up to 20th in ODI rankings. England’s Harry Brook and Ben Duckett also made significant climbs in the ODI batter rankings.
In T20I rankings, South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks improved to 11th, and Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee moved up to second among all-rounders.
