Looking for Pakistan players in IPL 2026? Here’s the straightforward answer – there aren’t any! PAK cricketers have been effectively banned from IPL since 2009. Diplomatic tensions between IND-PAK created this situation.

The IPL 2026 auction happened in December 2025 already! No PAK players appeared in the shortlisted auction pool.
Why Pakistan Players Can’t Play IPL
IND-PAK diplomatic relations have remained strained since 2009 causing this ban! BCCI enforces this restriction strictly without exceptions. The last player representing their national team played in 2008.
Sohail Tanvir holds a special place in IPL history actually! He hit the winning runs in the 2008 IPL final. Tanvir also won the first-ever Purple Cap that season.
Other stars played that inaugural 2008 season too! Shoaib Akhtar represented KKR while Shahid Afridi played for Deccan Chargers. Misbah-ul-Haq wore RCB colors during that historic first edition.
Since then, PAK cricketers have disappeared from IPL completely for 18 years! The ban continues affecting talented players missing IPL opportunities. IPL 2026 follows this same policy without changes.
The Abrar Ahmed Controversy in The Hundred
Abrar Ahmed created massive controversy recently in The Hundred 2026! Sunrisers Leeds signed the Pakistan spinner for £190,000. That’s the same ownership group owning Sunrisers Hyderabad!
Indian fans erupted with anger seeing the IPL-linked team signing him! Social media backlash became overwhelming against Sunrisers Leeds. The franchise’s X account got suspended temporarily.
BCCI clarified their position on this situation clearly! “We have no authority over foreign leagues,” BCCI stated. The Hundred operates under ECB rules, not BCCI jurisdiction.
But the IPL 2026 ban remains absolutely firm! BCCI won’t allow them in IPL whatsoever. That policy hasn’t changed despite The Hundred signings.
Overseas Passport Loophole
Only one workaround exists for players! Holding a non-Pakistani passport allows IPL participation technically. Azhar Mahmood played for Punjab and KKR as a British citizen.
Mahmood last appeared in IPL 2015 representing his British nationality! Mohammad Amir might become eligible after obtaining British citizenship. But no passport holder plays in IPL.
Since 2015, zero PAK origin played in IPL! The ban affects them most severely. IPL 2026 continues this 18-year absence of Pakistan players completely.
Will IND-PAK relations ever improve allowing cricket exchanges? That remains uncertain for now.
